Collectible Antique Sewing Oddments

Today there is a great deal of interest for a lot of peaople to learn all about the buying and selling of antiques, more than possibly at any time in history.

No doubt the most popular U.S. TV show 'The Antiques Road Show' and the British counter-part, have done a lot to make the antique industry suddenly so popular.  What was once thought to be the world of stuffy and snobbish appraisers picking away at Chinese vases and other such oddities has now become a business that is quite intriguing to most people.  Those who perhaps never before had an interest in antiques suddenly saw how much fun it could be to find out that an old afghan or piece of jewelry is actually worth thousands of dollars.

What has also helped everyday people to appreciate the world of antiques is that they see how items they never thought about as actually being antique, and certainly never considered as being valuable, can actually fetch quite a price at the right auction with the right buyer.  Those who assumed that "antiques" only meant fancy furniture or Asian carvings had their eyes open to items such as early American folk art, different textiles including tablecloths and other linens, collectible bottles, and items such as these.

Dealing with some antiques that you have already got some knowledge on or an possibly an interest in yourself can mean an endeavor that is not only financially successful but one that is so enjoyable.

Possibly you have thought about collectible antiques for for a little extra money but just cannot make your mind up as to which sorts of antique you would like to specialize in, or you are just looking for a little bit of variety to add to your business why not look at Sewing items?

Sewing Oddments

Who would have thought that an old sewing machine would actually be worth some money?

In reality not just the machines but all of their accessories that go with it that are typically very valuable as well.

Older machines are collector's items for many because they just aren't used that much anymore. Also they are thought of representative of a part of history because they were so important for families who just could not purchase new clothes as regularly as we do today.

Machines

Antique machines were often built right into the table and are very aesthetic today.  They usually required large wheels when they were manually operated and these were designed with intricate scrollwork.

The older the machine the more valuable it is but of course those that still work are going to be the most valuable.  Since many antique sewing machines were manually operated, they usually continue to work for decades if they're maintained properly.  Some brands are also most coveted, such as Singer or Wards.

Patterns

Sewing patterns are still easily purchased today but of course the styles are very different than what you're going to consider as antique patterns.

Some patterns have survived from the late 1800's and these include not just adult clothing but also doll's clothing and accessories, children's clothing, accessories, and patterns for thing such as tablecloths.

Antique sewing patterns are also quite a part of American history as they really demonstrate not just the styles of clothing that were popular during these times but also demonstrate the hard work that was put into creating these clothes by hand.

Buttons, Thimbles, Spools And Threads

Can you believe that there is actually a market for antique buttons?  Or thread?

The reason for this is simply because the materials used for these items were very different than the materials we use today.  Antique buttons are usually fashioned from brass or tin rather than hard plastic.Sometimes they were constructed by hand rather than mass produced the way they are today.

The same goes for thimbles and spools.  They really represent a time when things were done by hand and the materials were all real rather than synthetic blends.

Other Sewing Items

Whether they're baskets or needles or anything else once used for sewing, antique items are typically very valuable for the collector.

Deciding On Antiques

Hopefully by now we've convinced you that the world of antiques is not just for fancy Asian vases and old furniture.  There are buyers for virtually any type of antique item out there; as a matter of fact we haven't even scratched the surface of the different types of items that you may find to be very financially lucrative.

So if you've been thinking of entering the fun and exciting world of antiques, there should be nothing holding you back.  Do some reading about what makes each different item valuable and become familiar with about how much people are now paying at auction for them. You will possibly discover that this is the one of the most enjoyable business venture you've ever tried.

So like the saying goes, someones rubbish is anothers treasure, so get out there and start 'treasure hunting'!

can I put studded tires on the rear only of my 4X4 truck?

Why with good tires a 4x4 does not need them kinda a waist of money.
