The Whole World, But Not On Your Shoulders

Last week was my husband's birthday, I tell you what, I had run into a real situation. I didn't even have a clue of what to get him. He is just one of these really technical guys. It's always all about computers and devices that I can neither remember nor comprehend. And what's more, if he truly needs it, he just goes to the store and gets it himself. I make an effort not take into consideration the amount of money that goes towards this.

Then, I was downstairs seeking to create any sort of progress in tidying his office, when I finally realized that the answer was staring me right in the face. To elaborate on this, let me illustrate his office first. My husband's office is the dark, dank pit of all that is unholy. One can find piles of documents everywhere, stacks of notepads, file folders, white-out, post-its, you name the office supply and it is certainly in there somewhere. And am I permitted to come in contact with any of the papers or instruction manuals? Oh, no! Every single thing is where it is for a purpose, he would misplace hours of work and that would drive him crazy As a result I dust them lightly and sanitize all-around them, cautiously throwing away any litter that obviously does not include notes on it (he writes on napkins and other stuff regularly).

But all this, I'm sure I will deal with. So it looks like a guy works here, okay.† At least, my cleaning abilities cannot be held accountable for that! But the room is completely unornamented; unless you count the beautiful leather bound books sitting around, the small sculpture on his desk, and european map poster on the south wall. Now, I am mostly confident, knowing my spouse, that the inspiration behind the statue attached to the desk and also poster on the wall, is that he desired to seem studious. Of course, we could find the money for better than that cheap poster, but he would in no way expend the time which makes it happen.

So, plainly a gift to him is also a present to me! I searched high and low before I discovered exactly what I sought after. To my amazement, I got the idea of getting him a globe. I never would have dreamed that this may be the solution, but the more I thought about it, I knew a Replogle Globe will be a simple technique to give his office some much needed stylishness and personality. Adding an antique world globe to his office could manifest that "old school" look that you often see in an old library in Ireland or something. I found striking antique world globes, including desktop globes, and also floor standing globes from Replogle, which I think look amazingly elegant (Definitely 1000s of times better than that darn atlas poster on the wall!).

I ended up deciding on an antique desktoptop globe and set it on his cluttered desk while he was at work. What a shocker, ha! It had been fairly tough getting all his textbooks and manuscripts back exactly as they were, but we know we will deal with it okay. He loves his gift so much! (Boy do I!)

College questions please help?

Okay so I've been thinking about college for a while now and am stuck between working with computers or going for history. And I've also thought long and hard about joining the navy, because i really hate learning environments, now I'm under the impression college will be different from high school, but i REALLY hate high school. Before the usual comes up, no I'm not bullied or anything, i have friends ect ect. I just hate it, i get high 80's low 90's in classes i like and low - mid 80's in classes i don't. I already do know c++ and can use Direct3D 9 for programming just from buying books. The real question is what college should I go to, I live in NY (New York State) and don't want to go super far. I saw PTI (Pits tech inst) and it looked nice is that a good school? Or should i go into the navy and have them pay for my education as i serve my time. All answers are accepted and thanks in advance, some of this is really confusing.

If your GPA is good enough and you have the other necessary credentials (good physical condition, etc.), consider the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD. Major in Computer Science or Information Technology or Computer Engineering. The Navy will pay for just about everything. You'll serve as an officer when you finish. It will be VERY different than high school.

Amazon's Evolution From Web Retail Giant to Powerful Google, Apple Rival (eWeek)

Amazon's Kindle Fire launched this week, sparking a frenzy of reviews and
press coverage. A few short years ago, one would never guess Amazon would be
selling its own brand-name consumer electronics devices, but the Kindle tablet
family keeps growing. Moreover, the Kindle Fire marks the biggest, most
aggressive assault on the Web provinces Google and Apple have been carving out
for themselves in the last few years. But how did Amazon get here? In this
slide show, eWEEK takes a look at some of the major product launches that pit
Amazon against Google and Apple. Not every little salvo is covered. But the
major ones illustrate the overall trend. With more Kindle Fires, iPads and
Android tablets on the way, you can bet the three high-tech giants will
continue to jostle each other in the mobile market during 2012. - ...
