GE, Water Filter Desalination Plants thats Making a Difference.

It is a widely known fact that over 1.5 billion people in this modern world are still suffering from lack of access of clean drinking water. United Nations survey has reported that millions of people are dying everyday from thirst and consumption of polluted water. So what can we do to help? Many people have there own way of helping in their own various ways, however for an organization like GE, water filter desalination plants are being set up all over North Africa. This new initiative was set up GE Ecomagination and these desalination plants are making a huge impact on the health and well-being of millions of lives in Algiers.

In Algeria located between the Sahara and Mediterranean, a sea water desalination plant known as Hammas (Africa's largest seawater desalination plant) has been built to bring the people of Algeria drinkable water. Once without good clean drinking water the people of Algeria over 1.5 million strong now have a fighting future, a future with hope and direction. This multi-million dollar desalination plant is built on a water purification technology using a reverse osmosis membranes approach. This method is capable producing up to 200,000 cubic meters of potable water daily from the Mediterranean 24 hours a day everyday. There are further plans to build more desalination plants in the future in and around Africa. By the year 2010, GE water filter desalination plants around Algeria would be producing 2.3 billion cubic meters of potable water daily.

Providing and purifying water in third world countries is great and needed but closer to home people are also in need of filtered water. Many households in the United States are now becoming aware that our very own water from taps isnt been filtered 100%. While it is arguable that water we drink is indeed certified, when examined closer people will notice that disease carrying bacteria still exist. Unlike Algeria many of our populated cities and states dont get our water purified from the sea. It is common knowledge that many cities we live in get our water from municipal sources. This means that the water we drink and bath in is water which has been recycled from waste water. This may seem slightly disgusting but the process of purification here it quite revolutionary. However, in saying this there are increasing complaints of people falling sick from drinking water from our taps at home. This is not a new issue but more and more people nowadays are feeling the need to further purify there water in homes. According to scientists and plumbers, knowing the health risks associated with contaminated water, installing water filters at home may well be a wise investment for your familys health.

Will the Holga filter set fit onto a Diana camera?

I will be getting a Diana F+ camera soon and was just wondering if the Holga filter set (availible on the lomography website) will fit onto it, or if not if anyone reconmends a filter set that will?

Google Kills Its Own "Timeline" Feature (readwriteweb)

As Google works to emphasize up-to-the-minute search results, it has also
quietly killed off a search feature that helped users search for content from
the past. As users in the Google search help forum have noticed, the Timeline
feature for Web search has disappeared. It helped filter search results for
specific timeframes.

Timeline view is still available in Google News, but it only searches certain
archived publications instead of all Web results. Google community managers
have suggested the normal date range filter as an alternative, but this isn't
a browsable feature like Timeline was. Just as it has done with Google Reader
in recent weeks, Google has killed off a feature used by a small but dedicated
set of its users.

In response to user complaints about the disappearance of Timeline, Google
search community manager Kelly Fee suggests using google.com/trends or
google.com/insights/search for graphs of search results over time, but those
tools only go back to 2004, and they aren't a part of Web search. She also
