Onkyo TX-NR708, Excellent Receiver When Using The Best Price
The Onkyo TX-NR708 is my earliest receiver. It works great. Was some skeptic about my abilities to hook all of it up, but bought some banana plugs with the speaker wire and it works rather effectively. Simple to use, interface is very good, though I hardly "use" it direct (purchased Harmony One also).
It's a little daunting at first as there's a ton of features/settings to play having. The Multi-EQ makes getting awesome sound a breeze. Movies, music, heck, even regular Tv shows sound simply amazing now.
I would buy this again in any heart beat.
Switching from my 14-year old Yamaha RX-V890 to the Onkyo took not very many hours, longest part being the effort to tidy up many of the wiring. Just swapping really only went on about 30-minutes, but since I are in possession of all HDMI in's and out's, MY PARTNER AND I dumped a chunk in HDMI/Monster and also eliminated many bundles of excess many others. The switch instantly improved the tone quality of any media I've enjoyed a long way. Because of it's options, the Onkyo remote would most likely replace my $200 Sony universal. A great number of options with this machine. I think all said and done I'll have more money invested in Monster products than through this TX-NR708. My front DefTech's highs-mids are powered via the front pre-out to an Adcom plus their internal subs are powered by the internal amps so, the Onkyo's really only powering my surrounds here. Now all I need is about twice numerous effects speakers--since it can handle that. I am a little confused via the Audyssey DSX options and will need to play around with speaker configs to find how many speakers I can genuinely push; it looks like 7. 2 + 8, 9, 10, 11&12 it's possible possible.
Wife says I just turned your family room into the man-cave, and my son took it over considering the PS3 almost immediately after I finished the Onkyo TX-NR708 calibration--which was very simple and pretty cool. And I'm just amazed when using the improvement in the PS3 game smart quality. I'll probably have to ground him just to think about a Blueray movie!
